Brother Edgar was born on Toler Creek in Floyd County, Kentucky. He was won to Christ as a child through missionaries with Baptist Mid-Missions. Although saved, he was never grounded in the Word, and at age 18 he made his way to Detroit, Michigan to find work. Brother Edgar was not living for God during this time in his life. As a backslidden Christian, he was drafted into the Army to fight in Vietnam. He returned from Vietnam with three Purple Hearts and a promise to serve God with the rest of his life. After returning to the States, he enrolled at Midwestern Baptist College of Pontiac, Michigan to study for the ministry. The Lord eventually led him back to eastern Kentucky, and in 1978, the Victory Baptist Church was founded. Previous meeting houses for the church were located in Stanville and Broad Bottom, Kentucky. Today, the church's meeting house sits atop a mountain just outside Coal Run, Kentucky -- a suburb of Pikeville, Kentucky. |
